Support Services in Oxford

Who to talk to in Oxford:

If you’re suffering from disordered eating, or suspect that a friend is, it can be difficult to know where to turn. Fortunately, Oxford has lots of support services available. The central University site may be a useful starting place, other services are listed below.

Support services:

  • College Welfare Reps – if you’d rather not discuss problems with someone in your college, it may be possible to arrange to talk to a Welfare Officer or Peer Supporter at another college
  • College Nurses and Doctors – the ideal first point of call: College Nurses will be able to advise you on available support, and College Doctors can refer students to the Eating Disorders Unit at Warneford Hospital, Headington
  • OUSU VP Welfare and VP Women – can provide advice on available support and issues within College
  • Nightline – student-run listening service available from 8pm to 8am during term time
  • Student Counselling Service – professional counselling with very short waiting times (it’s been mentioned that the website could potentially seem off-putting – don’t let that stop you, as they really are very good!)
  • and, of course … Enough! – meetings in 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th week of term: come along and share what’s on your mind, or listen to other people’s experiences
